In March 2006 Karen presented a breakout session on visual branding at Mark Victor Hansen’s “Mega Marketing Magic” conference in Los Angeles. She has also given presentations on logos, book covers, graphic design, and production to National Speakers Association Publishing PEG Series, AssistU.com, SpeakerNet News, Sales Professionals International, Colorado Independent Publishers Association (CIPA), Colorado Alliance of Illustrators, and Zonta International.
Her eye-catching designs have played in the success of 28 award-winning and several best-selling books with a recent project that earned 2005 Writer’s Digest “Grand Prize” for the best-self published book in America! Karen’s book, Turn Eye Appeal into Buy Appeal won the “Best of Show” and 1st Place in the “How To” category of the 2007 Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY Book Awards competition. It also won an 2006 APEX award, which stands for “Award for Publication Excellence.”
While many designers guard their design secrets closely, Karen shares her techniques so that others too may master the skill. She taught desktop publishing at local Denver community and art colleges and also dedicates time and resources to mentoring publishers in CIPA. As a member of CIPA, her design tips column, Desktop Publishers Coach, was a trusted resource among members of their association.
Karen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from Western Michigan University in 1982. A self-taught computer graphic designer, she was the production manager for Cimarron Productions and Genigraphics.
In 1990, Karen founded her Colorado-based graphic design firm, MacGraphics Services. As part of a dynamic team of professionals, her company provides one-stop shopping and includes everything from ads, logos, flyers, book covers, product packaging, and more. Her esteemed list of clientele includes speakers, authors, coaches, consultants and small business owners.

An avid sports enthusiast, Karen enjoys the fun and challenge of windsurfing, waterskiing, snow skiing, volleyball, and long bike rides. When she is not riding bikes with her husband, Tom of 16 years, they enjoy spending time in their pop-up-camper with their two yellow labs, Taylor and Cody under the Colorado stars.
